Vineyard Notes

Composition: 42% Syrah, 21% Petite Sirah, 17% Merlot, 10% Zinfandel, 10% Barbera. Origin by Valley: 42% Napa Valley, 41% Shenandoah Valley (Sierra Foothills), 17% Alexander Valley.

Other Notes

Ed’s Red was first bottled in 2007 as a négociant wine, the 2004 Ed’s Red, by Edwin Richards, who is now also winemaker for Adastra and Boundless Optimism. The motivation for the current vintage is the same as it was for the original, to make enjoyable wine at a reasonable price. Edwin continues to insist Ed’s Red is “a hefty wine, best paired with mammoth (or vegetarian equivalent),” although he’s long since ceased to find any amusement in this observation. Since he’s mainly a vegetarian he is not too concerned that the mammoth meat market seems to have dried up and similarly does not get over-excited at Jurassic Park-type cloning scenarios. Cheers.
